About the artist
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Fin McDowell’s connection to music was instant and is undeniable. Her unwavering passion helped her overcome debilitating battles with anxiety and stage fright, propelling her to share her captivating and soul-baring lyrics with the world. Fin is driven by her desire to aid others in their own journey. By fearlessly addressing her vulnerabilities, Fin creates an inviting space for listeners to reflect on their own experiences and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.
Fin draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of genres ranging from folk, celtic and contemporary to pop. She weaves her music with influences from Imogen Heap, Tori Kelly, Lennon Stella, Lizzy McAlpine and JP Saxe. Her own writing shines with intelligent and authentic lyrics, influenced by personal experience. Her songs encourage listeners to embrace vulnerability and introspection in an age of separation.
In 2021, Fin released her debut single, "Losing Game" to the international streaming community. The song has been well received, having been placed on more than 6000 playlists.
Locally, Fin was the recipient of two awards at the 2022 YYC Music Awards, including Pop Recording of the Year" for "Losing Game”. Following the 2022 awards, she released two more heartfelt songs, "The Feeling" as well as “People I Barely Knew”, which would go on to win her “Songwriter of the Year” in the 2023 YYCMAs.
Fin also took home the Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award in 2022, awarding her studio time at the award winning OCL Studios, time which she would later use to record her newest single "Why Do I Try". Unlike her previous songs, "Why Do I Try" offers an energetic new vibe, displaying her wide range of musical influences. "Why Do I Try" signifies the beginning of an exciting new era for Fin McDowell.
